1. Tell us briefly the name of your club and where you come from, your history?
The name of our Club is "CD Villanueva de la Cañada". It is local club in a town named Villanueva de la Cañada, and it is located 32 Km to the north-west of Madrid (Spain capital). The club was founded in 1989 and nowadays we are 33 teams across all the age groups, from U7s to U19s, including 3 girls teams in U12s, U15s and U18s.
Our club provides the coaches methodology meetings in monthly basis, to be sure all the coaches of the club are working with the players on the same basis. This work methodology provides the coaches to be able to improve their players physical and technically, always under a safe and healthy environment. We believe that training all the players in the same way, it is the best way for our players to move forward year by year across the teams. And also, to create our own football style. No matter with which team a player needs to play with, because all the teams follow the same training methodology.
All our coaches are Level 1, 2 or 3 licensed coaches, and also we have some future coaches who are in the middle of their way to get licensed. To improve is other of our principles in this Club.
2. Tell us what participating in the Dana Cup means for you and your team/s?
Being Spanish means that football is in our blood, because we love football. So, having the chance to play football in this such a great mayor event as Dana Cup, it is like a dream that comes true. Especially for our club, because this is going to be the first tournament our club is going to take part abroad. It is a huge step forward for the club.
As this is the first time we are going to take part in a tournament abroad, this tournament is also a test for us, because our expectations is to come back next year, but with more teams to offer to our players this great experience.
3. What are your goals and expectations at the Dana Cup 2025?
Our goal is try to do our best in the pitch and try get as far as we can, always respecting the other teams efforts, the referees work and all the fans cheering for their players. We are aware that the best we can offer to everybody is our efforts, and sometimes in football, we do not get the reword that we play for, because there are going to be others teams working as hard as we are. So, no matter what the results are going to be, we will be the first ones shaking hands and congratulating the other players for their efforts.
4. Dana Cup supports Football for the Goals - it is a United Nations initiative that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We ask all teams to pick at least 1 of the Global Goals that they support and will play the Dana Cup, which goal does your team support and would like to play for? The goal our team is going to support is: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
