Good Friend Honours Dana Cup's Founder
Mamuka Preben Kvaratskhelia from Georgia has participated in the Dana Cup as a manager of Georgian teams and as a representative of the Georgia Football Federation since 1995, and thus he is a very good friend of the Dana Cup. However, Mamuka was also a close friend of the now deceased founder of the tournament, John Robert Larsen.
‘That is why I have been visiting the cemetery to honour John Robert at his gravesite in Hjørring. In Georgia we have a custom where we open a bottle of red wine and then we pour some wine on the ground in a cross. Afterwards, we drink a little of the wine and leave the bottle so that other visitors can do the same, ‘ says Mamuka, who visits the graves of his deceased parents every week.
During the visit to the cemetery in Hjørring, Mamuka also visited Søren Kærholm's grave together with Lizzy Kærholm. For many, many years, Søren Kærholm was a central figure in the Dana Cup responsible for the opening ceremony and also a regular speaker at the finals at the Nord Energi Arena.
