Making Friends from Around the World
With a current goal difference of 11–1, AFA Lebanon from Beirut has taken the first step towards head coach Omar Gandour’s confident prediction that the club will lift the trophy in the B16 (7v7) category on Friday.
The tournament is still in its early stages, and by Tuesday afternoon AFA Lebanon had to acknowledge that Stars And Stripes from the USA had been even more effective, with a goal difference of 13–0.
However, Omar Gandour has participated in the Dana Cup six times before. He knows the tournament well, enjoys the experience, and understands the level of competition – so perhaps his prediction could come true.
For the players themselves, the Dana Cup is their first experience at an international football tournament, and they have no doubt about what they are gaining beyond the football, the matches, and the victories.
"We have already made friends from other countries, and we keep in touch by sending each other messages and pictures," they explain.
