Newbattle HSFC - B16 - Scotland
1. Tell us briefly the name of your club and where you come from, your history?
We are Newbattle High School, a state secondary school from just outside Edinburgh in Scotland with 1.100 pupils from 12-18 years of age. The school has football teams for boys from U13 to U18 and also now has two girls teams.
Our Under 16 side, who are going to the Dana Cup, won the Lothian League title this season. We have attended every Dana Cup since 2005.
2. Tell us what participating in the Dana Cup means for you and your team/s?
Dana Cup has been a big part of our football programme since our first visit in 2005. It is something every player knows about and looks forward to when they arrive in the school and inevitably names as their most memorable experience when they leave school. So many, as four former participants support us with sponsorship and fundraising to enable us to continue to come each year. Dana Cup creates a great team spirit for us before and after the trip!
On a personal note it was my privilege to receive the Dana Cup honor award last year, John Frame.
3. What are your goals and expectations at the Dana Cup 2025?
Other than an easier journey than last year due to the disruption caused by the Microsoft issue, our aim is as always, to thoroughly enjoy the experience on and off the park and create life long memories for the players. On the field we hope to make the A-final round and progress as far as possible with Friday games a major achievement for us.
4. Dana Cup supports Football for the Goals - it is a United Nations initiative that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We ask all teams to pick at least 1 of the Global Goals that they support and will play the Dana Cup, which goal does your team support and would like to play for? As a school it has to be Number 4 Quality education for all.
