Many teams arrive
In recent days, football players from many countries have come to Hjørring, and in the centre area children and adults have been visible, while preparations for one of the world’s biggest soccer tournaments have been in full swing. On Sunday more people have arrived and tonight many participants are expected as several ferries from Norway arrive at the port of Hirtshals, just as ferries from Gothenburg in Sweden dock in Frederikshavn.
‘On Sunday evening we welcome around 3000 players and managers from Norway and Sweden. Here we are ready with almost 60 buses that will transport them to their respective places of accommodation, which are typically schools in and around Hjørring. On Monday we are ready to welcome the last ones’, says Jørgen Nielsen, who together with his wife, Dorthe, have put together an incredibly complicated puzzle for several decades.
The volunteers in charge of transport also ensure that buses pick up teams flying to Jutland airports. Moreover, they offer free transport from the accommodation to the central area in Hjørring and on to the football pitches in Hjørring and the surrounding area.
