Dana Cup Academy in Uganda – Girls, Potential and Power
As an important part of Dana Cup’s strategy for sustainable development, we are working purposefully to increase equality in football. Although Dana Cup brings together over 1,000 teams from around the world each year, we still see a significant majority of male players as well as male coaches, leaders, and referees. We want to change that.
Our ambition is clear: We want to increase the number of female players, coaches, and referees in international youth football. We do this by strengthening our recruitment and marketing efforts targeted at girls and women – both in Denmark and globally.
Dana Cup Academy in Uganda – an initiative that makes a difference
In collaboration with Kids of Africa in Kampala, Uganda, we are taking an important step toward greater equality:
We are establishing the Dana Cup Academy Girls Football Camp – a training program exclusively for girls.
From the 27th of February to the 1st of March, the camp will be held in Bwerenga, where participants will experience three days filled with:
- qualified football training
- inspiring community
- accommodation and meals – completely free of charge
- professional coaching with trainers such as Anita, Richard and Eddy
- a safe environment where the girls can focus on talent, development, and dreams
The purpose is to give the girls a unique experience through football – while also strengthening their belief in their own abilities, both on and off the field.
More than football – an investment in the future
During the camp, we will hold short presentations and conversations about:
- what it is like to be a girl/woman in football
- which opportunities exist in the sport – both nationally and internationally
- that all girls have the right to follow their dreams, no matter where in the world they live
Inspiring female players such as Joy Omewa (Nigeria), Vanessa Karungi (Uganda) and Phiona Nabbumba (Uganda) serve as strong role models.
A strong partnership with heart and purpose
Kids of Africa and Dana Cup share the belief that sport has the power to change lives. The girls participating gain not just technical skills – they gain confidence, hope, and a sense of community that can carry them far into the future.
Dana Cup Academy in Uganda is only the beginning. We will continue working for:
- greater equality
- more girls in football
- more female referees
- stronger role models at all levels
Because football is for everyone – and because all dreams are worth pursuing.
