Dana Cup Academy Uganda – Where Girls, Dreams and Futures Take Flight
Our very first Dana Cup Academy Girls Camp in Uganda has come to a beautiful and inspiring close and what an incredible beginning it has been.
From the 27th of February to the 1st of March, 30 talented girls between 12 and 16 years old gathered in Bwerenga for three unforgettable days of football, friendship, confidence‑building and possibility.
Three of the participants were homegrown talents from Kids of Africa, where the camp was proudly hosted. All girls were carefully selected by Anita and Richard through mini‑tournaments held in Kampala — ensuring that passion, potential and determination were at the heart of each invitation.
Girls, Potential and Power – Fully Alive on the Pitch
Throughout the camp, the girls trained with dedication, supported by the professional guidance of Frank, Anita, Richard and Eddy. They lived together, trained together, learned together, all free of charge and in a safe, empowering environment designed to help them focus on their talent, development and dreams.
But the magic of the camp reached far beyond the technical sessions.
Role Models Who Show That Dreams Are Possible
A powerful highlight was the video call sessions with Vanessa Karungi and Phiona Nabbumba, two Ugandan stars playing football professionally in Denmark.
The girls’ biggest questions were heartfelt and honest:
- What is it really like being a young female footballer from Uganda?
- How did you reach your goals?
- How do you follow your dreams when society, family, school or friends doubt you?
These conversations lit a spark. They showed the girls that success is not far away, that it is achievable and it can start right here, right now.
More Than Football — A Step Toward Equality
This camp is part of Dana Cup’s long-term strategy to increase equality in football. Even though more than 1,000 teams join us every year, boys still dominate the global football landscape, as players, coaches, leaders and referees. We are committed to changing that.
This first camp in Uganda is a concrete step toward:
- More girls playing football
- More female coaches and referees
- Stronger role models
- Greater international opportunities
A Partnership with Purpose
Together with Kids of Africa, we believe in the power of sport to shape futures. These 30 girls went home not only with better football skills but with confidence, hope and a new sense of community and belonging.
And perhaps the clearest sign of success? The girls are already asking: “When is the next camp?”
This Is Just the Beginning
Dana Cup Academy in Uganda will continue to grow, inspire and open doors. Because every girl deserves the chance to play. Every girl deserves a voice. Every girl deserves the opportunity to dream boldly and chase those dreams with courage.
Football is for everyone. All dreams are worth pursuing.
