Valur FC 1 (ISL) – Mercedarios (ESP) 6-1 (3-0)
Before the final, Mercedarios had not conceded a single goal throughout the tournament. That record came to an end in emphatic fashion as Icelandic side Valur scored three times in the first half against a surprisingly passive Spanish defence.
Valur produced some of the best football seen during Saturday’s finals, combining a high tempo with excellent technical ability. It was a level of intensity and quality that Mercedarios struggled to match.
Just two minutes into the second half, Valur added another outstanding goal as their striker weaved his way through the Spanish defence before finishing superbly.
In the 36th minute, Mercedarios pulled one back to make it 5–1, but Valur responded immediately, restoring their five-goal lead just a minute later.
A truly excellent final from the Icelandic side, who produced one of the tournament’s most impressive performances.
