The Most Beautiful Adventure of the Summer

‘The most beautiful adventure of the summer.’ This is how Langesund from Norway describes the Dana Cup without hesitation. The club between Oslo and Kristiansand has participated in the tournament every year since 2005. This year, six teams with more than 100 players are registered.

‘We love coming to Denmark. The Danes are good at welcoming guests. Norway Cup is far too big and not at all as cosy as the Dana Cup,’ emphasizes Björn-Einar Myhre from Langesund, who is pleased with the great parental support, both on the trip to Denmark and in relation to financial support for their children.

‘We expect that each participant will have to pay around NOK 6,000, and even though it is a lot of money, everyone really wants to go. Therefore, children and their parents have also made a huge effort to collect money. We are looking for voluntary organisations, just as we experience a lot of support from the local business community, who are happy to support us. Finally, and not least, we get fantastic support from Bamble municipality. We can apply for financial resources for our club, we get subsidies for our players up to the age of 26, we also play for free in the local sports halls and have our football facilities looked after by the municipality.’

‘Players, managers, parents, uncles and aunts, plus grandparents form a fantastic fellowship. We have already been to Fårup Sommerland and to Action House, where we bowled and drove go-karts,’ Björn-Einar Myhre smiles.

‘As soon as we get home, we start thinking about next year's Dana Cup. Not least, the work begins with raising money for the trip. Even though we live close to Larvik, from where Color Line sails to Hirtshals, we like to make the slightly longer trip to Kristiansand, where we can travel cheaper with Fjord Line. We must use the opportunities where we get the most for our money,’ he emphasizes and adds that players, managers and family members lived in rented summer houses in Lønstrup in the first years, but in recent years have lived in schools in Hjørring.
