61 per cent of all countries in the world have participated in the Dana Cup
According to most standards, including the UN, there are 195 recognized countries in the world. Since 1982, 118 of them – or as much as 61 per cent – have participated in the Dana Cup. This year, Ethiopia is a new nation at the world's most international youth football tournament.
With 1011 teams, the Dana Cup 2024 is one of the biggest ones. However, the record was set in 2016, when 1153 teams competed for the more than 130 trophies and around 1500 medals on more than 60 football pitches in Hjørring and the surrounding area.
This year, a total of 51 nations will participate in the Dana Cup. Norway is without comparison the country that contributes the most to the tournament with 614 teams. 106 teams from Denmark participate. Sweden with 39, Germany with 50, Mexico 24, the USA with 22 and Poland with 23 teams. In total, there are 17,500 players who, together with parents, managers and others, spend more than DKK 179 million in the area. As a matter of fact, the 2577 matches are played on 62 pitches.
