Breaking Barriers Through Football in Madagascar
When we first introduced you to Yfomac from Madagascar, their story was nothing short of inspiring. Founded as a community association in 1984 and later transformed into the country’s first-ever girls’ soccer school in 2019, Yfomac has been a beacon of hope for young women in Madagascar. Their mission? To create opportunities for girls from grassroots communities to play football in a safe, supportive environment—empowering them to dream big, both on and off the pitch.
Now, Yfomac is taking their message to the world with a powerful new video that shines a spotlight on gender equality, strong girls in football and the biases they continue to face. This isn’t just a team preparing for their first-ever Dana Cup tournament; it’s a movement challenging stereotypes and advocating for equal opportunities in sport.
For Yfomac, participating in the Dana Cup 2026 is more than a competition—it’s a chance to represent Madagascar and the African continent on a global stage. Their chosen Global Goals—Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 15: Life on Land—reflect their commitment to empowering girls and protecting Madagascar’s unique biodiversity.
As Nya Rafali, founder of Yfomac Initiatives, says:
“We want our girls to follow their dreams with equal opportunities and preserve Madagascar's nature, which is unique with an isolated biodiversity and many plants and animals found nowhere else on the planet.”
This is what the Dana Cup is all about: creating a platform where dreams come true, where diversity and inclusion are celebrated, and where football becomes a tool for change.
