Hoping to Play in the Final Again

In 2022 Mexico United participated in the Dana Cup for the first time, and the girls did so well that the team went all the way to the final, where they lost 1-0 to Sandness Ulf after extra time.

‘This year we are taking part in the Dana Cup for the second time, and we hope to be able to play in the final again, this time in the G17, ‘ stresses Sofia Lopez, who was on the team last year but unfortunately has to sit out this year. A serious knee injury prevents her from playing, and the injury means that she will have to undergo surgery already in August.

‘Then I help the team with a lot of practical tasks instead, ‘ she says.

‘We think the Dana Cup is a really good tournament. At home in Mexico, we typically play with the same teams every time, but the Dana Cup is very international, where we constantly meet exciting teams from new countries. Furthermore, we get to know players from other countries, so in that way the Dana Cup is also a social tournament, and finally it is the disco. Some of the players on the team this year have never been to a disco before, so it's a great experience for them, ‘Sofia Lopez smiles.
