Record participation from Africa – a growing global footprint at Dana Cup 2025

In recent years, Dana Cup has intensified its focus on expanding African participation. With the dedicated efforts of our Africa Office, led by Frank Petersen, this vision is becoming a reality.

In 2025, Dana Cup is set to welcome over 50 African teams – a new record. Just two years ago, only seven teams from Africa were able to participate. Last year the number grew to 20, and now it has more than doubled.

Teams will be travelling from across the continent – including strong footballing nations like Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt, as well as debut nations such as Namibia and Guinea. In total, around 15 different African countries will be represented.

While most participating teams are boys' teams, Dana Cup is committed to growing girls’ football participation in future editions. All youth players – regardless of gender – deserve the chance to experience the international football stage.

The growing African presence is a powerful symbol of what Dana Cup is all about: opportunity, connection and the power of football to bring the world together.
